Tracy Edge

District 104

State Representative

Family

Tracy and FamilyThank you for taking the time to visit my web site. I am pleased to have you here to get to know my wife Melissa and our children, Hannah and Pierce and a little bit more about me personally. I married Melissa Pierce in December 1994. She is a school teacher that has taken some time off while our children are so young. At this age (Hannah is 6 and one half going on 15 and Pierce is a very active almost-five), we both feel strongly that Melissa should be at home with them.

Heritage and Public Service

I am very proud of my family's heritage. The Edges have been residents of the North Myrtle Beach area since the 1700'S. My family has a legacy of public service to the community. My father, Robert L. Edge, Sr. was the first mayor of North Myrtle Beach. My brother, Robert L. Edge, Jr. was an Horry County Councilman from 1982 through 1988 and was elected Horry County Coroner in 1988 and has been serving in that position ever since.

Experiencing where we came from provides me a sound foundation for my vision of where the community, county and state needs to go and the actions to take to get there.

Tracy speaking at SC House sessionSince 1996, I have been your South Carolina State Representative from House District 104. My first elected office was a two year term on the North Myrtle Beach City Council from 1994 through 1996. In the S.C. State House I hold the position of Chair, Real Estate Sub-Committee of the Committee on Labor, Commerce and Industry. I have also serve as Majority Whip as a member of our House Republican Leadership team. After having served three terms, my seniority contributes significantly to my being able to have a significant say in actions that impact our community.

Community

In addition to my family's elected community service, my parents have been motel owners since 1955. My father is a retired contractor and restaurant owner. Robert and Donald, my brothers, operated the family restaurant from 1979 through 1988. So I well recognize the challenges of operating a small business.

Tracy visiting with school childrenI come by honestly my respect for and belief in the need for high quality education for our children. Not only because of my desire to do the best for Hannah and Pierce but because my family's life is intertwined with the Horry County school system. My Mother, Nettie Edge is a retired teacher (35 years). My sister, Bobbie Edge is the principal of the North Myrtle Beach Primary School. And as I said earlier, Melissa is a school teacher certified in early childhood education. I have grown up hearing, understanding and appreciating the educational needs of our children and the respect, authority and support needed by our teachers.

I keep close ties to our community by serving as the vice-president of the North Myrtle Beach Republican Club. I have also been a member of the North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club and the former Chairman of the School Improvement Council of the Academy of Arts, Science and Technology. My family and I are active members of the First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach where I proudly serve as Deacon.
